Iran rejects Western calls to abandon retaliation against Israel /

“The statement of France, Germany and Great Britain, which does not express any objection to the international crimes of the Zionist regime, shamelessly calls on Iran not to take any action to deter threats against the regime, which has violated its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” said Nasser Kanani, the press representative of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “Such a request lacks political logic, is against the principles and rules of international law and is public and practical support” for Israel, Kanani stressed.

The Iranian-Lebanese Shiite militant group Hezbollah has threatened to take revenge for the killing of Haniyeh and Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukra last month.

Shukr was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on July 30, and Haniya was killed in a bomb blast in Tehran a day later. These killings worsened the already tense situation in the Middle East, where Israel’s war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip has been going on for the tenth month.

Diplomats of Western countries have tried to prevent escalation and prevent a wider war in the region. On Monday, the United States and European countries again called on Iran for restraint.

“We called on Iran to abandon threats of a military attack on Israel and discussed the serious consequences for regional security should such an attack occur,” Britain, France, Germany, Italy and the United States said in a joint statement.
