The United States is not ready to hold detailed consultations with Iran on lifting sanctions against Tehran due to domestic political problems. This was stated by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic Reza Najafi, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“Indirect talks are continuing, but we understand that the other side – the United States – is not ready for serious talks on lifting sanctions due to its internal problems,” he said at a press conference dedicated to the results of the department’s work over the past three years under the government of Ebrahim Raisi. The diplomat’s words are quoted by the ISNA agency.

“The other side should also be ready for detailed negotiations, in this context we will observe what the policy of the next American government on this issue will be,” the deputy head of the MFA added, emphasizing that Iran has always sat down at the negotiating table and is ready for them when forming the next Iranian government led by President Masoud Pezeshkian, who won the second round of the presidential elections on July 5. Iranian authorities noted that Oman is acting as a mediator in consultations with the United States. The parties are discussing the lifting of sanctions, the situation in the Middle East and Tehran’s nuclear program.

Najafi said that Tehran “does not have frozen assets abroad, they can be used, of course, [для этого] There are some obstacles, mainly related to sanctions.”

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Nasser Kanani, previously stated that American policy towards Iran is hostile in its essence, and for qualitative changes in bilateral relations, Washington must abandon its aggressive policy towards Iran, therefore the results of the November presidential elections in the United States are not so important to Tehran.

During the election debates, Pezeschkian advocated dialogue with the West, restoring the nuclear deal and attracting foreign investment. Iranian analysts warned that this plan could remain on paper if Republican Donald Trump wins the US presidential election on November 5, 2024, which could curtail the negotiating process.
