Tehran: Iran launched a satellite on Saturday from a rocket built by the country’s paramilitary force ‘Revolutionary Guard’. State media gave this information. Western countries fear that this could help Iran move forward on its ballistic missile program. Iran said that this is its second launch to put a satellite in orbit through a rocket. Scientists later confirmed the launch and said that the satellite has reached orbit. In the video later shared by Iranian media, it is seen that the rocket was launched with the help of a ‘mobile launcher’. The Associated Press, after analyzing the video and other pictures released later, said that this launch was done from the outskirts of Shahrud city, about 350 kilometers (215 miles) east of Iran’s capital Tehran. Iran has done this launch amid increasing tension in West Asia over the Israel-Hamas war.

How was it launched

During the war, Iran launched missile and drone attacks on Israel. Meanwhile, Iran’s uranium enrichment program, necessary for the manufacture of nuclear weapons, continues. Disarmament experts have expressed concern about this program of Tehran. Iran said that ‘Qaim-100’ rocket was used to launch the satellite and the Revolutionary Guard used it during another successful launch in January.

America expressed concern

State media reported that the satellite, named Chamran-1, weighs 60 kilograms and has been placed in orbit. The US State Department said about this launch, “We have long been concerned that Iran’s space launch vehicle program will help it expand its long-range missile systems.”
