Preparations are underway to resume the activities of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran.
As reported on Monday by Day.Az, this was stated today at a press conference in Tehran by the press secretary of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nasser Kanani.
According to him, preliminary positive steps have been taken to resume Azerbaijan’s diplomatic activities in Tehran, and positive negotiations have been held at the level of foreign ministers.
An official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry noted that some time ago, a diplomatic delegation of Azerbaijan arrived in Tehran to conduct preliminary preparations.
“There is a unanimous opinion between Iran and Azerbaijan that political cooperation between the two countries should develop along with the economy and other areas,” he emphasized.
Let us recall that on January 27 last year, at about 08:30 in the morning, a man armed with an automatic weapon and numerous clips of ammunition carried out a terrorist attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran. While preventing the attack, the head of the embassy security service, Orkhan Askerov, was killed and two more people were injured. Embassy security officer Vasif Tagiyev, who rushed at the terrorist without a weapon, managed to disarm him. After the incident, employees of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran and members of their families, on behalf of the head of state, were evacuated to their homeland. A total of 53 people were evacuated.
It should be noted that the treacherous attack on the Azerbaijani embassy was strongly condemned and declared unacceptable by officials of international organizations and various countries of the world (foreign ministers, ambassadors, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), as well as politicians and journalists. In their statements, appeals and publications, they demanded a comprehensive investigation of the terrorist attack and punishment of those responsible.
