Kamal Kharazi, chairman of Iran’s Foreign Relations Council, said in an interview with Al Jazeera that his country has the technological capability to produce nuclear weapons, but it has not decided to produce them yet.
In an interview, Kharazi added that his country is conducting extensive exercises in case Israel decides to damage its strategic facilities deep in the country. Kharazi claimed that Israel was in a weak position at the moment, and that the support of US President Joe Biden would not return it to the forefront. According to him, “damage to our security from neighboring countries will be met with a harsh and direct response in these countries against Israel.”
Kharazi stressed that no decision has yet been made by Iran to produce a nuclear bomb despite the technological ability to do so.
Regarding negotiations with the US on a return to the nuclear deal, Kharazi said it was difficult to have a direct dialogue with Washington in light of the lack of trust and American policy.
He also stressed that there is no promise on the part of the Americans to maintain the nuclear deal, and therefore there is difficulty in reaching an agreement. Harazi also says that the Iranians do not trust the International Atomic Energy Agency. Harazi argued that there would be no negotiations on the issue of missiles and regional policy, as this would mean surrender.
Kharazi called for dialogue with the regional powers, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar and Egypt, apparently in an attempt to fight the regional alliance that is beginning to materialize between Israel and these countries.
