Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Friday mocked US leader Joe Biden’s statement that he wanted to “liberate” Iran: “I must remind you that Iran liberated itself 43 years ago and will no longer submit to you”he launched.

“The distracted American president said he wanted to liberate Iran. But I have to remind you that Iran liberated itself 43 years ago and will no longer submit to you.”retorted Mr. Raisi in front of thousands of Iranians gathered in Tehran to mark the anniversary of the taking of hostages at the United States embassy on November 4, 1979 by supporters of the Islamic Revolution.

The latter demanded the extradition of the ex-shah, treated in the United States. 52 diplomats and employees were held hostage for 444 days. Five months later, Washington severed its relations with Tehran and imposed an embargo on it.

“Death to America, death to Israel, death to Britain!”chanted the crowd. “We obey the Supreme Leader” Ali Khamenei, placards proclaimed.

“Don’t worry, we will liberate Iran. (The Iranians) will liberate themselves very soon”Mr. Biden had launched on Thursday.

“Satanic Purposes”

According to state television, similar demonstrations were organized in other cities, including Mashhad (northeast), Isfahan (center) and Shiraz (south).

“We will never allow you to carry out your satanic purposes”, said Mr. Raisi again to the address of the United States, accused by the Iranian authorities of encouraging the protest movement.

The protest movement was sparked by the September 16 death of Mahsa Amini, an Iranian Kurd who was arrested three days earlier by the morality police. Over the days, the demonstrations in favor of the freedom of women against the wearing of the Islamic veil have turned into a challenge to power, which denounces for its part “riots”.
