Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi will visit Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela next week, Iranian state news agency IRNA announced on Wednesday, adding that the trip was the result of invitations from the presidents of each of the Latin American countries.
IRNA said agreements to expand bilateral cooperation would be signed between Iran and the three countries during Raisi’s visit, mentioning economic, political and scientific issues but not going into further detail.
The trip will allow Raisi to meet with three regional allies, each of whom lead leftist governments accused by critics of human rights violations.
Iran and Venezuela are members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
