Hezbollah confirms Nasrallah’s death
“We will continue to fight against Israel.”
Lebanon’s Islamic militant group Hezbollah said its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, has died.
Hezbollah said in a statement on the 28th, “Our leader Hassan Nasrallah has died.” He also said that the fight against Israel will continue.
Previously, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on the 27th, “Hasan Nasrallah, Hezbollah’s southern front commander Ali Karaki, and other commanders were killed.”
The Israeli military said it carried out the airstrike while Hezbollah leadership was meeting at its headquarters in Dahiyeh, south of Beirut. They warned, “High-ranking Hezbollah executives attempted to commit terrorist acts against the Israeli people,” and added, “We will go after anyone who threatens the Israeli people.”
After the Israeli military announced that Hassan Nasrallah had been killed, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei sent a message of support for Hezbollah, saying, “All resistance forces in the region are with Hezbollah.”
He called for Muslims to unite against Israel and said, “We must fight against this cruel, evil regime.”
Previously, the Israeli military carried out a precision airstrike on the Hezbollah command center under a residential building in Dahiyeh on the 27th, followed by an additional bombing of a civilian building believed to be a Hezbollah hidden weapons depot in the southern suburbs of Beirut in the early morning of the 28th.
Nasrallah led Hezbollah for 32 years after becoming Secretary General of Hezbollah in 1992. Under Nasrallah’s leadership, Hezbollah developed a powerful military organization with Iranian support and also grew into an influential political party in Lebanon.
