The heart of one of the neighborhoods with the longest history in Irapuato will house the first Beer Museum in Guanajuato, a space that will combine the history, tradition, and present of a drink that is more than three thousand years old.

Under the guard of the craft brand Genaro Roque is how the gallery project is developed, which will have in custody a collection of more than 200 craft and industrial beers, three interactive rooms, which will be “Origin”, “The 5 senses” dedicated to production, as well as an itinerant that protects her two medals obtained at the Concours International de Lyon, France 2023.

The Beer Museum is a project that was born a couple of years ago, with the idea that Guanajuato is the only state that produces five drinks: beer, wine, pulque, mezcal and tequila; However, since the 19th century, the production and recognition of the quality of beer in Irapuato has been a watershed that gave impetus to more than 40 producers in the state, who today are positioned in the taste and preference of consumers of this drink based on water, malt, hops and yeast, whose oldest recipes come from the Sumerians and ancient Egypt, for more than three thousand years, until today in world-class countries such as Germany and Belgium.

“We are within a neighborhood, the oldest that can be said of the city, within the eight neighborhoods, because in 1882 an Irapuatense obtained a second place medal in this exhibition; With this base, Guanajuato is taking the direction of a very good beer producer, with more than 40 brands, which speaks of the strength that it has in production in the state, but especially in the municipality,” stated Miguel Hernández Roque, creator of the craft beer Genaro Roque.

In addition to this ancient journey, the museum proposes to present the room of “The 5 senses”, where the visitor will be able to detect and identify the different aromas of its ingredients, as well as some citrus, floral or fruit notes with which they can infuse a beer, as well as knowing the operation of a mechanical corker, which is used to put the cork into the bottle.

“The purpose is for people to perceive the aromas and ingredients of our beer, which is made under a 1596 purity law, which says that it can only be made with malt, hops, yeast and water; ingredients that visitors will be able to feel,” he added.

One of the treasures of this space will be the custody of a collection of more than 200 beer brands from around the world, which will be on display so that people can learn about the design, presentation and name, some of them made in monasteries since 1543 and that they continue to manufacture it even now.

As a final part, the visit to the museum culminates with a tasting of the three styles of beer, two of them awarded at the Concours International de Lyon, France 2023, a Gold Medal Blonde Ale beer and a Silver Medal Brown Ale beer.

It is expected that this 2023, the museum will be able to open its doors and receive at the intersection of Manuel Acuña and 5 de Febrero, in the San Cayetano neighborhood, connoisseurs and those who like to know the history of beer, as well as be a part of the story Genaro Roque.
