/ The Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadhil, announced on Wednesday that a contract to establish a solar power plant with a capacity of (1000) megawatts in Najaf is close to being signed with the Saudi company (ACWA Power).

This came during his reception of the Saudi company officials at the ministry’s headquarters, where the steps to proceed with concluding the aforementioned contract were reviewed.

The Minister stressed that “the Iraqi government is keen to enhance cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, especially in the field of energy, pointing to the recent approval of the Council of Ministers to proceed with the project to implement the solar energy production contract with ACWA Power.”

He explained, “The common desire and mutual keenness of both parties to complete the contract, which was delayed for three years, will very soon result in its final signing with the support of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.”

For his part, the delegation of Ako Power Company expressed the company’s management’s desire to implement renewable energy projects inside Iraq, which reflects the Kingdom’s keenness to enhance joint cooperation between the two brotherly countries in various fields.

The two sides agreed to intensify meetings between the technical and legal teams from the ministry and the company to reach a contract formula that includes the terms, prices, and details in a way that guarantees the rights of both parties.
