/ The Lebanese Customs Authority revealed, on Wednesday, that Iraq imported fruits and citrus fruits worth about $45 million during the past year 2023, and thus it is the only one that imports from Lebanon more than it exports to it.

The Lebanese Customs stated, in a report reviewed by Shafak News Agency, that “Iraq’s imports from Lebanon during the past year increased compared to 2018, which amounted to 35.6 million dollars, which was the highest import volume at that time.”

She pointed out that “Iraq exported goods to Lebanon worth approximately $4 million last year, compared to $4.7 million in 2018,” noting that “agricultural and food exports constitute 45% of Lebanon’s total exports to Iraq.”

She continued: “Agricultural exports witnessed an increase in previous years, peaking in 2022 at $59 million,” adding that “the majority of agricultural exports to Iraq are fruits and citrus fruits.”

The Lebanese Customs Authority explained that “the Iraqi market is widely open to Lebanon, and developing exchange between the two countries is available, but olive oil exports still prefer the Gulf countries, as they enjoy an advantage in price, and some of them also go to Europe. As for date imports from Iraq, they will compete with date imports from Saudi Arabia, which is more famous for these products,” indicating that “one billion dollars is the total cost of importing fuel and diesel from Iraq.”
