The second vice president of the Iraqi Football Association, Younis Mahmoud, congratulated the Iraqi fans on the victory over the Omani team, while pointing out that Iraq is difficult for all teams in its home stadium.

Mahmoud told the (INA), “Congratulations to the Iraqi fans and media for the national team’s victory over its Omani counterpart,” stressing that “usually the first match is difficult and the Omani team is not easy, and the most important thing is that we get the three points because the journey is long.”
He added, “Iraq is difficult on its own ground for all teams,” indicating that “there are no problems and the team is doing well.”
For his part, the national team defender, Hussein Ali, confirmed that the injury he sustained during the match was minor.
Ali told the (INA), “The injury was minor and was a muscle spasm,” stressing, “We were able to achieve victory, which is the most important thing.”
He added, “Basra is very beautiful and difficult for all the teams that come to it,” indicating that “our goal is to make the Iraqi fans happy.”
In turn, the national team goalkeeper Ali Kazim told the (INA), “We congratulate the Iraqi people on the national team’s victory,” noting that “the victory is important and the Omani team is not easy, but we were able to get three points and this is what is required.”
Our national team achieved victory over its Omani counterpart (1-0) in the match hosted by Basra International Stadium this evening, Thursday, as part of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
