Iraq participates in the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships and the seeding tests in Baghdad

/ The Iraqi Athletics Federation announced, on Sunday, the participation of the national team in the Asian Indoor Championships scheduled to be held in Iran next February.

The Executive Director of Athletics, Zaidoun Jawad, told Agency, “The championship will be held in the Iranian capital, Tehran, from February 12-17, with the participation of Asian teams.”

He added, “The Federation will hold tests today for the ranked men and women in the capital, Baghdad, in order to select the first winners to represent the Iraqi national team in the Asian Indoor Championship for both genders.”

He pointed out that “the federation will hold a three-week training camp for the national team in Iran before the start of the continental competitions, which will continue until the start of the tournament.”

Jawad said, “Choosing the Iranian capital, Tehran, to hold the training camp for our national team came in order for the players, both male and female, to adapt to the atmosphere of the capital, Tehran, and to be ready to participate in the Asian competitions.”

The Iraqi athletics team won two bronze medals in the Asian Junior Championships held in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, recently, through runner Mustafa Mohsen Hazam in the 2000-meter steeplechase race, and runner Zain Al-Abidin Mukhlis, who won the bronze medal in the 3000-meter race.
