Iraqi government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi revealed that Iraq had signed a deal in the armaments sector with America “to purchase 41 aircraft.”
Al-Awadi told CNBC, “The agreement was signed after Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani met with US President Joe Biden at the White House.”
He added: “There will be a flexible plan to pay for some of these aircraft, while others are a gift provided by the United States of America.”
The Iraqi government spokesman confirmed, “The aircraft will be received within a few months, and a special production line will be opened for Iraq.”
On the other hand, Al-Awadi indicated, “It was agreed to end the electronic platform for external transfers at the end of 2024 in order to rely on licensed Iraqi banks and arrange their relationship with foreign banks.”
In another matter, Al-Awadi confirmed, “During the meeting of the Iraqi Prime Minister with the American President, the issue of lifting American sanctions on some Iraqi banks and the withdrawal of international coalition forces was discussed.”
In this context, the US Department of Defense, the Pentagon, announced the approval of “an imminent military deal with Iraq worth more than half a billion dollars, including only $140 million for an aircraft deal.”
According to the statement, “The deal includes the sale of logistical support and training aircraft at an estimated cost of $140 million.”
The Pentagon explained, “The training and support applies to the Iraqi fleet of C-172 and AC/RC-208 aircraft, and the main contractor for the deal will be Northrop Grumman.”
Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani is visiting Washington at the head of a delegation consisting of 130 people specialized in various sectors, in a visit that began on April 13 and will continue until the 19th of the same month.
