Iraq surpasses Romania in importing Turkish table olives

/ Iraq has advanced a new rank, surpassing Romania, to become the second country on the list of the largest importers of table olives from Turkey for the past year 2023.

Iraqis were ranked third in the list of importers of Turkish table olives in an official census until November 2023.

The head of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters Association said that Iraq ranked second in the list of the largest importers of table olives from Turkey until the end of 2023, explaining that our exports of black olives amounted to $58.8 million last year, an increase of 30% compared to 2022, when they amounted to $45.3 million, while our exports of green olives decreased to $14.8 million, compared to $15.5 million in 2022.

He added, in a statement seen by Agency, that the Germans, then the Iraqis, and then the Romans third, consume Turkish olives more than others, indicating that Germany is at the forefront of importers of table olives with a share of $20.6 million, including black olives worth $17.2 million, and green olives worth $3.4 million.

He explained that Iraq came in second place with a share of $9.8 million in black olives, and $1.8 million in green olives.

He pointed out that Romania is also one of Turkey’s traditional markets for table olive exports, with $7.5 million worth of black olives and $467,000 worth of green olives.

He added that other prominent countries in table olive exports to Turkey are the United States of America with a demand of $4.5 million and Bulgaria with a value of $3.5 million.

In the previous statistics, Germany was also the leader in importing olives from Turkey, with a value of $33.4 million, followed by Romania, with a value of $24.3 million, and Iraq, with a value of $23.4 million.
