/ The Iraqi Weightlifting Federation announced on Thursday that four weightlifters will represent the Iraqi national team in the Asian Championship hosted by Uzbekistan for ten days.
The media coordinator of the federation, Qasim Shalaqa, told Agency, “The Iraqi national team ended its training camp yesterday in Uzbekistan and will enter the competitions today, Thursday, after the weighing and examination processes, and we seek to achieve good results in this tournament as it qualifies for the Paris 2024 Olympics.”
He added, “Only four weightlifters will represent Iraq in the Asian Championship, the competitions of which will start today and continue until the tenth of this month. They are Safaa Rashid in the 89 kg weight class, Qasim Hassan in the 102 kg weight class, Haider Ali Askar in the 102 kg weight class, and Ali Ammar Basr in the +109 kg weight class.”
He pointed out that “the Iraqi national team prepared early for the tournament with a training camp in Erbil in order to get the technical staff ready to record numbers that will allow us to compete and achieve colored medals in addition to snatching qualification cards for the Paris 2024 Olympics.”
