/ The Iraqi Basketball Federation took a series of decisions on Wednesday, following the repercussions of the match between Al-Shorta and its host Zakho in Dohuk Governorate.

He said in a statement received by Agency, that the referees committee met with the head of the Iraqi Basketball Federation in the presence of the head of the referees committee and the referees of the match between Zakho and Al-Shorta clubs, and reviewed the reports of the match supervisor, the technical observer and the match referees regarding the events that took place during the match between Zakho and Al-Shorta clubs in the city of Zakho yesterday, Tuesday.

The Iraqi Basketball Federation regrets, according to the statement, that some actions have turned into unjustified assaults and actions far from humane positions in dealing with great figures of international players who have represented Iraq in the best way in international forums, adding that it is necessary to point out and praise the positions of the administrators, coaches and players of Zakho Club in setting a noble example in humane dealings with the Al-Shorta Club team, whose players soon acknowledged the noble position and thanked the administrators, coaches and players of Zakho Club through social media channels.

The statement added that after hearing all opinions, the following was decided:

1- Approving the result of the match as Al-Shorta Sports Club’s victory over Zakho Club with a score of (69-61).

2- Imposing a fine on the American professional player of Al-Shorta Club (Lamont Jones) in the amount of (3,000,000) three million dinars only, and not promoting the contracting process with him in the upcoming seasons in the Iraqi League.

3- Banning Zakho Club fans from attending the club’s matches until the end of the Premier League this season.

4- Expressing thanks and appreciation to the administrators, coaches and players of Zakho Club for their cooperation in protecting the Police Sports Club team.

The Iraqi Basketball Federation called on all sports clubs participating in the Iraqi Premier League to work to prevent their fans from engaging in such behavior in the service of Iraqi basketball.

Yesterday, the Police Basketball Club delegation left the city of Zakho after the intervention of security men who accompanied the delegation until it left the city safely to avoid being attacked by Zakho fans, after the crowd riots that accompanied the match between Zakho and Police in the Premier Basketball League.

The first spark of the events began after a provocative move by one of the professional police players (American Lamont Jones), which angered the Zakho fans.
