Iraqi clubs express their position on releasing their players to the Olympic team

/ After a number of Iraqi football clubs apologized for releasing their players to the Olympic team under the age of 23, which is preparing to enter the Asian finals in Qatar in the middle of this month, which is considered a qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympics, decided to seek the opinions of Iraqi clubs, To seek their opinions and the extent of their readiness in order to recruit their players for the Olympic team in the next stage.

Al-Minaa coach Hassan Ahmed told Agency that he decided to agree to release the club’s most prominent players who make a difference in every match, in order to serve our Olympic team as it enters an important Asian battle that qualifies us for Paris.

Ahmed added, “The Olympic coach summoned four players from Al-Minaa, namely: Salem Ahmed, Jaafar Shanishil, Mujtaba Ali, and Sajjad Alaa, to represent the Olympic in the next continental championship, and the administration and I agreed to unload the players to serve Iraq.”

He explained that the four players are considered the main pillars of the team and their presence is very important in every match that Al-Minaa plays, but I believe that the homeland is greater than anything else.

While a member of the Al-Zawraa Club management, Abdul Karim Razzaq, confirmed to Agency that his club management agreed to offload any player needed by the Olympic team coach, Radhi Shanishil, and that it had absolutely no objection to doing so in order to serve the nation.

He pointed out that Al-Zawraa is always a pioneer in supplying the national teams with players, and this characteristic has been with our club for a long time, as Al-Zawraa is one of the major Iraqi clubs, a mine of players, and it does not skimp on the Iraqi teams.

He continued that the club management supports our Olympic team, and all teams, especially since the Olympic team is entering into fierce competitions against teams that have prepared well for the tournament, and we hope that our team will succeed and qualify for Paris.

The draw for the Asian Championship qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics placed the Iraqi Olympic team in the third group, alongside Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Tajikistan.

The top three teams qualify directly for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris after competing in the AFC U-23 Cup, scheduled to start in Qatar next April 15, while the fourth-place team will play in a global playoff to have the opportunity to participate in the Olympic Games.
