/ US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced on Sunday evening that he and President Biden will not tolerate this time the attack expected to be carried out by the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades on the Al-Tanf base in the Iraqi-Jordanian-Syrian border triangle.
“I am outraged and deeply saddened by the deaths of three of our American service members and the wounding of other American soldiers in an attack last night against American and coalition forces deployed to a location in northeastern Jordan near the Syrian border to work toward the lasting defeat of ISIS,” Austin said in a statement translated by Agency. “These brave Americans and their families are in my prayers, and the entire Department of Defense mourns their loss.”
“Iran-backed militias are responsible for these ongoing attacks on US forces, and we will respond at a time and place of our choosing,” he added.
Austin continued: “The President (Biden) and I will not tolerate attacks on American forces, and we will take all necessary action to defend the United States, our forces, and our interests.”
For its part, the American Associated Press reported that “the attack on the military base near the Iraqi-Jordanian-Syrian border triangle was carried out by an Iraqi group and launched from Iraqi territory.”
In the context, the American CNN channel reported that “Hezbollah Brigades in Iraq are responsible for the attack on American forces in Jordan,” noting that “the brigades launched the drone towards Jordan from the city of Rutba in Anbar.”
