Iraqi Minister of Transport discusses with Turkish delegation the latest developments in the development road project

/ Today, Sunday, the Iraqi Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, discussed with a Turkish delegation headed by the Turkish Ambassador to Baghdad, Ali Riza Konay, the development road’s issues, according to a statement by the Ministry of Transport received by Agency.

The statement said that Al-Saadawi discussed with the Turkish delegation a number of issues related to the project, and reviewed the latest developments in the work of the Iraqi side regarding the project designs, and the interest of the government and Prime Minister Eng. Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani in the development path.

He explained that the ministry sent technical delegations to Turkey to discuss the project’s details, and worked to form technical committees, and created a headquarters for the project in the General Railway Company, which works around the clock to complete the project’s requirements, under the supervision and follow-up of the higher authorities at the ministry’s headquarters.

Al-Sadaawi stressed the continuation of completing the requirements of the development road with the local governments in the governorates, noting that there is a desire among many countries in the region and the continents of Asia and Europe to participate in our project, at the level of construction and implementation, out of their belief and conviction in the feasibility of this road and its strategic importance on the global transportation map.

The Minister of Transport revealed that he received an invitation from his Turkish counterpart to visit Ankara to discuss the path of development.

In turn, the Turkish ambassador confirmed that the project includes important projects related to the sectors of (land and rail transport), noting that a number of Turkish companies are studying the project and are ready to help and participate in fulfilling its requirements.

The Turkish ambassador noted that “during Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s visit to Ankara, we worked on preparing a draft between the two sides. A second draft will also be written when President Erdogan visits Baghdad. These two drafts will constitute a roadmap and a gateway linking Iraq and Turkey.”

It is noteworthy that an Iraqi delegation had held a number of meetings with the Turkish side in Ankara, and the two sides agreed on a number of points related to the project.
