Iraqi Oil to Open Northern Refinery in Baiji Soon: Produces 150,000 Barrels Per Day

/ The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refining Affairs announced today, Monday, the imminent opening of the northern refinery in Baiji with a capacity of (150) thousand barrels per day, while describing the refinery as an important challenge and addition to national production.

The Ministry of Oil said in a statement received by Agency that “after the national cadres were able to reconstruct the northern refinery in Baiji in record time, with a refining capacity of (150) thousand barrels per day, which is expected to open soon.

A statement was quoted from the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refining Affairs, Hamid Younis, during his field inspection and follow-up of the reconstruction project of the northern refinery in Baiji, Salah al-Din Governorate, that “the company is putting the final touches to complete the reconstruction project of the northern refinery, which was subjected to sabotage and destruction at a rate of up to (90%),” indicating that “the national effort is able to complete the reconstruction of the northern refinery with a capacity of (150) thousand barrels per day.”

The Undersecretary of the Ministry pointed out that “the government and the Ministry are keen to rebuild this refinery, which represents an important challenge and addition to national production, and contributes to covering an important part of the local needs of citizens, industrial facilities and power stations.”

Younis pointed out “the great role of the Prime Minister in supporting the Ministry’s efforts to accelerate the completion of the reconstruction stages and bring life back to the refinery, through his diligent follow-up, in addition to the follow-up of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil,” expressing his hope “for the project to be opened in the coming period.”

For his part, the Director General of the Northern Refineries Company, Adnan Mohammed Hamoud, provided a “brief explanation of the technical and engineering preparations for the trial operation of the refinery,” according to the statement.

The ministry stated that “the inspection tour of the Undersecretary of the Ministry included holding a meeting with the company’s officials, then inspecting the ongoing work in the refinery’s production units and meeting with officials and workers.”

The ministry pointed out that “the national effort succeeded last year in reconstructing the Salah al-Din 1 and Salah al-Din 2 refineries, with a capacity of 70,000 barrels per day for each, within the Sumoud refinery complex in Baiji in Salah al-Din Governorate, which also includes the northern refinery with a capacity of 150,000 barrels per day, and the oil and fats refinery.”
