/ President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid stressed, on Tuesday, the importance of increasing the volume of trade exchange between Iraq and Armenia.
Today, Rashid held a bilateral meeting with his Armenian counterpart, Vahagn Khachaturian, at the Baghdad Palace, to discuss relations between the two countries and ways to develop them.
The presidency said in a statement following the bilateral meeting that the two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries, and to advance the path of joint cooperation in various economic, commercial, investment, scientific, technical and technological fields, as well as in the fields of health, education, youth, tourism and culture to broader and more comprehensive horizons in a way that serves mutual interests and enhances joint efforts to achieve security, stability and prosperity for the countries and peoples of the region.
During the extended discussion session, Rashid stressed the importance of developing bilateral relations, enhancing cooperation and coordination between the two countries, diversifying economic and trade cooperation, encouraging Armenian companies to work inside Iraq, and exchanging official visits and delegations, which would increase the volume of trade exchange between the two sides, and would benefit both countries.
He pointed out the importance of continuing to work on strengthening the role of joint committees and concluding agreements and memoranda of understanding to advance economic, trade, tourism, cultural and air transport cooperation between the two countries.
The two presidents held a joint press conference, during which Rashid said that the dialogues discussed ways to develop bilateral relations, and special emphasis was placed on maintaining a high level of political dialogue between Armenia and Iraq and continuing visits between the two sides.
He stressed the importance of working to expand the existing legal agreements between the two countries in various fields, pointing to the growth in the volume of trade exchange in recent years.
The Iraqi President also said: We agreed to activate trade relations to ensure effective participation from both sides in various exhibitions and field conferences held in Armenia and Iraq.
He stressed the role of the Armenian-Iraqi Intergovernmental Committee for Economic Cooperation and we noted with satisfaction that the points of the protocol signed at the regular session of the Committee held in September of last year have already begun to be implemented.
Rashid pointed out that the focus was on cooperation in the fields of energy, agriculture, and high technology, especially digitalization, e-governance, technological education, and other related fields, as well as in the fields of health, science, culture, and humanitarian fields.
