Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said the country will consider processing all potential asylum applications as quickly as possible, and emphasized that Ireland’s first response always prioritizes the humanitarian aspect.

The nationality of these people is unknown, but according to RTE news agency and an independent Irish newspaper, most of them are Kurds from Iran and Iraq, in addition there are 3 Vietnamese and a Turk.

These people were discovered when the refrigerated vehicle stopped at the entrance to the ferry departing from Zeebrugge (Belgium) on January 8.

Irish authorities were informed about this suspicious container truck based on a report from a migrant. Therefore, the police were waiting before the container truck arrived at the port.

The Port of Rosslare handles both passengers and goods from Europe with particular connections to France and Spain.
