IRIS Payments: A Fast and Cost-Effective Solution for Instant Transactions in Greece

by time news

By connecting to the service through a simple and quick process that takes only a few minutes and minimal clicks from their mobile or computer, professionals can receive immediate payments from their clients with significantly reduced fees or no fees at all. It is emphasized that opening a new account is not required, as one of the existing declared accounts in the Professional Accounts Registry of AADE can be used for registration in the service.

It is noted that until today, approximately 500,000 freelancers and self-employed individuals have registered for the service, while recently there has been rapid growth in registrations (in the past three weeks alone, over 100,000 registrations were completed).

Step-by-step registration with a few clicks and minimal time

The activation of the service is done quickly and easily, without the obligation to visit any bank or service, through the web banking or mobile banking of cooperating banks 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Through their bank’s Internet Banking, the professional in a few steps:

Selects the IRIS Payments service from the Services section in Internet Banking.
Declares their identification to their clients (VAT number).
Links the professional account to which the money received via IRIS Payments will be credited.
Upon completion of their registration in the service, a unique QR code for the business is generated, which they can share with clients for scanning and making payments to their business.
It is reminded that the IBAN chosen by the professionals and self-employed during their registration must have been declared in the Professional Accounts Registry of AADE, in the digital portal myAADE (myaade.gov.gr) at the path Applications > Tax Services > Professional Account.

A total of 12 banks now provide the service: Alpha Bank, National Bank, Eurobank, Piraeus Bank, Cooperative Bank of Epirus, Viva.com, Optima Bank, Attica Bank, Pancreta Bank, Cooperative Bank of Thessaly, Cooperative Bank of Karditsa, and Cooperative Bank of Chania.

Interested parties can find detailed information about the banks offering the IRIS payments service for professionals through the official website of DIAS S.A., by selecting the bank with which they cooperate in the path Services > For Businesses > IRIS direct payments to professionals/self-employed and be informed about the activation method according to each bank.

Significant benefits for citizens and professionals

Registration in the immediate payment service offers professionals a range of significant advantages such as:

Easy receipt of payments without the client’s presence being necessary and without additional equipment (POS).
Immediate availability of receipts in the professional account 24 hours a day and instant notifications via SMS or push notifications. Professionals receive the money instantly (in 2 seconds) even if the bank they cooperate with is different from the client’s bank.
Security in transactions: Transactions are conducted in the secure environment of the banks’ mobile banking and by using biometric data.
Low cost of using the service: The cost of using the service is extremely low or even zero and ranges from 0% to 0.50% of the transaction amount. It is, therefore, significantly lower if the same transaction were conducted using a POS.
It should also be noted that the limit of 500 euros per day for transactions via IRIS applies per client and not to the total payments the professional can receive within 24 hours. For example, a professional can receive 4 payments of 500 euros each in one day (totaling 2,000 euros).

Additionally, citizens who register for the service benefit from completely free transactions (whether between citizens or for payments to professionals), easy, fast, and secure payments, without IBAN, without cards, and without cash, using only their mobile phone.
