The case of 28-year-old Tori Towey, who was accused of attempted suicide and drinking alcohol after being hospitalized in Dubai, caused strong reactions in Great Britain and Ireland.
Travel was banned

Exposed to violence
After allegedly being beaten by her husband, Tori tried to take her own life, which is prohibited in Dubai.
At the hospital, she was also found to have a blood alcohol level, and therefore was also charged with drinking alcohol. Her passport was blocked and a court date was set aside for July 18.
It prompted strong opinions that a woman who is a victim of violence and who is clearly having a very difficult time is being dragged to court instead of getting the help she needed.
Towey, who works as cabin crew in the United Arab Emirates, moved to Dubai in the spring of 2023.
