The short film ‘Irrits’, directed by Maider Oleaga from Bilbao, has won the award for the best work in Basque at the 21st Caostica festival, as decided by the jury of Anna Solanas, Koldo Serra and Marta Fonte. It is a work selected in the Kimuak 2022 catalog, which is accumulating recognition from festival after festival, including last January at the 16th Huhezinema, the Basque Short Film Festival organized by the students of Mondragon University. With this last award, Oleaga received the EHU Kultura-Caostica trophy, a trophy and a 500 euro grant.
The Bilbao native premiered his newest work at the Malaga film festival, and it stars Clara and Izaro, teenagers who are summer camp supervisors. Galapa and Sumendi production houses are behind it, and the festival of feelings, love and colors prevails: Izaro and Clara, two 17-year-old teenage girls, are working as supervisors in children’s summer camps. On a hot day, Clara kisses her friend longingly. Izaro, blinded by passion, wanders trying to manage what has happened to him, but he is ready to follow Clara, to the area she wants.
In addition to the short film ‘Irrits’, the following 8 other works were recognized: VIDEOCINEMA award: ‘Flechas’, (Imanol Ruiz de Lara); Special mention: ‘Safe’ (Josema Roig); Best VIDEO CLIP trophy: ‘Howler – Martin Gore’ (NYSU); Special mention: ‘Anoana – Heilung’ (Line Klungseth Johansen), award for the best ANIMATION: ‘Sandwich Cat’ (David Fidalgo); Special mention: ‘Ashkasha’ (Lara Maltz); BIZARRO award: ‘A Goat’s Spell’ (Gerhard Funk) and the last Special Mention: ‘El Nazareno’ (Jose Luis Pineda).
CAOSTICA is a group of professionals from Bilbao in the fields of media, audiovisual production, graphic design and pedagogy, with many years of experience and experience in the preparation and promotion of educational and cultural events. Thus, they are the agents and organizers of many initiatives and events on the cultural agenda of Bilbao that are celebrated throughout the year, including Caostica – the International Short Film and Video Clip Festival, which has turned 21 this year.
