Baghdad: IS Attack in Iraq and Syria. Eleven sleeping soldiers have been killed in an attack on an Iraqi military barracks. Eighteen people have been killed in an attack to free terrorists from Syria’s largest prison. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a military base in al-Azim district, about 73 miles from Baghdad. Military sources told the AFP news agency that the attack took place at around 3am. Ten soldiers and a lieutenant were killed. This is the largest attack on the Iraqi army in recent memory. Security has been beefed up in the area following the incident.
IS also carried out attacks in Syria. Hundreds of IS militants stormed the Guiran prison where IS militants were being held to secure their release. Eighteen Kurdish security forces were killed in the attack. Sixteen IS militants were also reported killed. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a jail housing 3,000 IS militants.
