Military Spokesman’s Statement

Military spokesperson Brigadier Ravi Herath has said that an electronic forensic investigation has been started to find out whether the soldiers who came to break up the protest held by the Inter-University Student Union in front of the University of Colombo on the 7th had iron and wooden sticks in their hands.

He also said that investigations have been started on the basis of a photo of a group of soldiers carrying iron and wooden sticks that was circulated on social media.
He said that since all the photographs were taken from the rear, its authenticity cannot be clearly confirmed and it cannot be said for sure that the soldiers are holding sticks in the photograph.
