Yes, Leverkusen has a historic chance
Leverkusen has everything that FC Bayern would like: a top coach for next season, a perfectly put together squad, an outstanding team spirit, calm in the club, the German championship and the chance for the treble.
This is associated with a historic opportunity.
Bayer can not only remain a long-term competitor to Bayern, but can really hurt the record champions for the next few years and steal titles. To do this, however, caution and humility must come to an end. Leverkusen has to turn the tables, switch to attack mode and beat Bayern at their own game.
Of course, Bayer can still sell stars in the next few years with correspondingly horrendous offers from England, for example – but under no circumstances to Bayern. The solution: a highly publicized ban on Bayern. This would also mean peace for Alonso and Wirtz, and in the longer term.
After Niklas Süle left Bayern for Dortmund on a free transfer, why shouldn’t Leverkusen look for Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka or Thomas Müller? The request alone would be a statement if it turned out to be utopian in terms of content.
And then of course you need a title announcement to Bayern: “Now your dominance is over.” Even Uli Hoeneß gets a kick out of it at Tegernsee.
