Nearly twenty-five years after describing Germany as the “sick man of Europe”, the American magazine The Economist uses the same expression to describe the economic crisis it is going through today. According to the IMF, German GDP fell by 0.3% between January and March 2023, which would place Germany last in the ranking of the world’s major economies, behind the United States, Spain and France.
