The Gendarmerie stated that after being admitted to the hospital, Eduardo Macaya has now joined the rest of the prison population.
Eduardo Macaya is currently being held in Rancagua prison in preventive detention, awaiting the “fulfillment” of his six-year prison sentence for sexual abuse of minors.
Alamiro Seguel Vicencio, provincial leader in Cachapoal of the National Association of Penitentiary Officials (ANFUP), explained to T13 the situation of the father of Senator Javier Macaya (UDI).
“The Gendarmerie regulations clearly state that the safety and health of inmates must be ensured. In this case, the inmate, Mr. Macaya, He arrived with a medical document disclosing a medical condition that required special care in the hospital,” the official said.
Along these lines, he indicated that the institution “should keep him in the medical facility until a medical professional said that he could move, like the other inmates, to the module that corresponded to him.”
Seguel Vicencio pointed out that Eduardo Macaya presented the medical certificate and “Since there was no doctor, we saw that the decision of the management to keep him in the hospital was correct,” adding that “officials do not know that the leadership has been pressured to give any kind of privilege to Mr. Eduardo Macaya.”
“Today the accused is in a module classified for sexual crimes, just like the rest of the prison population. What I was told is that immediately after he arrived, he was subjected to protocol, like everyone else, and he was assigned to module 86 of Sexual Crimes,” he clarified.
The Gendarmerie representative pointed out that “as officials we agree that no citizen should receive privileges over another when entering a penitentiary facility. If this is true, if it is true that Mr. Macaya received privileges, we condemn him outright.”
