Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds stunned fans when they announced Jackman’s surprise return to the big screen in the movie “Deadpool 3”, in the character of Wolverine. After “Logan” released in 2017 became known as his swan song as Wolverine and ended with the character’s death, Jackman is back.

The news was announced last month, but the planning of Wolverine’s return to “Deadpool 3” has been brewing for a long time. Reynolds recounts his first meeting with the president of Marvel Studios – Kevin Feige – about three and a half years ago, after Disney bought Fox. In the post-merger meeting, the topic of the connection between Wolverine and Dead Paul came up. “It wasn’t possible then, so it’s exciting that it’s happening now.”

At the Logan press tour, Jackman repeatedly stated that he was retiring from his role as Wolverine. At the end of the movie the character died, the fans were sorely disappointed, and the possibility of seeing Wolverine return to the screen seemed impossible.

While Reynolds was eager to keep Wolverine for more than three years, and according to Jackman “begged him every day” for a Wolverine-Deadpool movie, it wasn’t until last August that Jackman relented and agreed to return to the role. “I think it was a big shock for him,” says the actor.

“Oh my god, I’m excited,” Reynolds said of Jackman’s return. “Getting to set with one of my closest friends every single day is a dream come true. But to do it with these two iconic characters side by side is beyond our wildest dreams.”

Reynolds added that he is always amazed by Jackman’s talent and his ability to play diverse and different roles. “He comes in as this hyper-masculine superhero character, but also acts in musicals and plays vulnerable characters, in all kinds of movies, budgets, and for all kinds of audiences.”

“A little part of me thinks I’ll be better at it now,” Jackman says of returning to his iconic role. “Is it arrogance of age or something? Wolverine is a tortured character. More tortured than me. But I always feel that he’s comfortable with himself, and I feel more comfortable with myself now.”
