Is it hot or cold for the season? Compare today’s weather with previous years

“It’s warmer than usual today”, “the bottom of the air is cool for the season” : who has not one day pronounced these words? Our apprehension of the weather often gives us the impression of abnormal heat or a cold that we thought was over.

This is the whole paradox of a warming world: based on long-term trends, climate specialists observe an undeniable rise in global temperature, but the perception we have of this generalized warming is biased by weather that varies considerably from day to day, region to region.

With the following two graphs, we offer you a journey through time, to find the temperature at the same time of the year, between 1996 and 2023.

⚠️ Attention, these data are simple meteorological readings, and not a demonstration of global warming. Whatever our feelings of the day, the change is very real: since the beginning of the XX^e century, the temperature has already increased by 1.7°C in France, and the future looks worse than expected, with very strong increases in summer.
