Dodgers interested in reinforcing the mound… Possibility of trade to secure roster spot
If rival Lohas and Taylor leave, Kim Hye-sung’s position will also be affected.
There has been speculation that the Major League Baseball (MLB) LA Dodgers, who recruited Kim Hye-seong (26), will seek additional reinforcements. I thought they could organize existing players to secure the roster, but Kim Hye-sung’s position competitors were mentioned, drawing attention.
MLB’s official website, MLB.com, said on the 8th (Korean time), “The Dodgers have taken a step forward to resolve the imbalance between center fielders and infielders, and there is a good possibility that they will make more moves (to strengthen their power) in the future.”
The Dodgers recently signed a 3+2 year contract with infielder Kim Hye-sung worth up to $22 million (about 32.4 billion won). With the addition of Kim Hye-seong to the Dodgers’ solid infield, traffic management was needed, and the roster was organized by trading Gavin Lux, who played as the starting second baseman last year, to the Cincinnati Reds.
MLB.com analyzed, “Kim Hye-sung was scheduled to be used in a super utility role, but with Lux’s trade, the possibility of receiving ample opportunity at second base has increased.”
The Dodgers’ efforts to strengthen their power are not over. They are aiming to strengthen not only the fielders but also the mound. There is great interest in recruiting Rocky Sasaki, who is heating up the MLB this winter.
The media said, “The Dodgers are interested in recruiting Japanese genius pitcher Sasaki and bullpen pitcher. “We may have to leave more space on the 40-man roster (with additional signings),” he said, mentioning three potential trade candidates.
The three players mentioned by the Dodgers are Chris Taylor, Miguel Rojas, and James Outman. Among these, infielders Taylor and Rojas are players who were considered potential competitors to Kim Hye-sung.
MLB.com said, “Taylor is a versatile backup member preferred by the Dodgers. “But we can’t take all the players,” he said, predicting the possibility of a trade.
Regarding Rojas, he predicted that he could be subject to reorganization due to overlapping roles, saying, “Rojas’ role for the 2025 season will probably overlap significantly with Taylor.”
Locally, it is believed that Kim Hye-seong’s position has changed from backup to starting position after Lux’s trade. Meanwhile, if at least one of Taylor and Rojas leaves the team, the possibility of Kim Hye-sung becoming a starting player increases even more.
