THE CHEKING PROCESS – A scientific study evoking the consequences of intensive groundwater pumping has been virally promoted on Twitter, although at the cost of misleading reading.
The publication of a study on June 15 by la revue Geophysical Research Letters, caused a stir. And, immediately, social networks took it virally. It could read, in essence, that man was responsible for the displacement of the axis of rotation of the Earth due to the intensive pumping of groundwater, mainly for the irrigation of crops. “We already knew that Earth’s gravity had evolved wherever the over-pumping had accelerated. But the phenomenon is of such magnitude that it is responsible for the hitherto unexplained derivation of the Earth’s rotation poles“, for example, wrote the hydrologist Emma Haziza on Twitter, in the middle of hundreds of tweets.
