As Corona 19 subsided, international marriages with foreigners showed an increase again.

In the case of foreign wives, it is said that Cambodia and Vietnam are the most common. Recently, a man who saw goodwill with a Southeast Asian woman complained with anticipation about the woman’s age, saying, “If I had an accident, I would have a daughter like that.”

It depends on the marriage information company (determination company) that arranges international marriages, but for Southeast Asians, such age gap matchmaking is not surprising.

For example, in Vietnam, it is common for both men and women to get married before reaching their 30s, but there are cases where Korean men marry because they want economic support.

Netizens also commented on this and criticized it as a ‘marriage for sale’.

According to the National Statistical Office on the 17th, the total number of marriages in Korea last year was 191,700, a decrease of 800 from the previous year, which was the lowest ever.

On the other hand, the number of marriages with foreigners increased by 3,600 over the same period to 16,700.

The number of marriages with foreigners decreased due to Corona 19, but after Corona 19 calmed down somewhat last year, it turned to an increase again.

Looking at the rate of increase (compared to the previous year below) by nationality of foreign women married to Korean men last year, Cambodia recorded the highest with 208% (422 cases in total).

This is followed by △Vietnam (151.6%, 3319 cases) △Philippines (95.8%, 509 cases) △USA (31.3%, 600 cases) △Thailand (21.6%, 1932 cases).

On the other hand, the number of marriages decreased in Japan (-17.2%, 599 cases), Russia (-17.1%, 295 cases), and China (-5.9%, 2282 cases).

The increase rate of first marriage was also high in Cambodia (240.4%, 303 cases), Vietnam (182%, 2250 cases), and the Philippines (105.5%, 339 cases). The rate of remarriage increased significantly in Cambodia (147.9%, 119 cases), Laos (141.2%, 41 cases), and Vietnam (105.2%, 1,069 cases).

An official from the National Statistical Office analyzed, “As Corona 19 was somewhat relieved in 2022, immigration restrictions were also eased.”

In the midst of this, the story of a man about to turn 40 being introduced to a woman in her early twenties by an international marriage information company became controversial.

He said, “I thought that if I had an accident in high school, I would have a daughter like that.”

According to a recent office worker community blind, Mr. A, 39 years old, was introduced to women in their 20s by a marriage information company (hereinafter referred to as a decision company) that he recently joined.

After signing up for a matchmaker for foreign women, he was first introduced to a 25-year-old woman from Thailand.

Although he was “shocked” at the age of a woman different from himself, he couldn’t hide his expectations.

But the 25-year-old woman was no surprise. The company decided to introduce him to a 20-year-old woman from Vietnam who had just graduated from high school and proposed a meeting.

Mr. A confessed, “I was really shocked when I heard that a woman who had just graduated from high school was getting married.”

Netizens immediately showed explosive interest in this post.

More than 600 pieces of advice were posted, questioning whether it was actually possible to marry a woman with a difference of nearly 20 years beyond the age of the same age.

While some mentioned the age difference and criticized it as a ‘marriage for sale’, they cheered by citing examples of sex marriages around them and saying, “I hope that you will meet a good person.”
