Olesya Rostov is Denise Pipitone? This is the question that has taken hold in the last 24 hours, since the face of the 17-year-old Russian has peeped out of TV and newspapers around the world. A question that could be answered already tonight, in the Rai 3 program conducted by the journalist Federica Sciarelli. “Tomorrow (tonight ed) we will know more because it is a thing of ‘Who saw it?“, the lawyer Giacomo Frazzitta, lawyer of Piera Maggio, explains to the online newspaper Il Riformista.

After years of research and disillusioned expectations, Piera Maggio could be one step away from his daughter, disappeared on 1 September 2004 from Mazzara del Vallo, in the Trapani area, in circumstances that have never been clarified. A Russian girl, Olesya Rostov, has rekindled hopes for the resolution of the most intricate and troubled Italian missing house of the last twenty years. Is she really Denise? “We are hopeful but always cautious because we have had so many disappointments“, explains the lawyer Giacomo Frazzitta. As reconstructed from The Reformist, Olesya Rostov sent a letter to the editorial staff of пусть говорят (in Italian “Let them talk”), a Russian broadcast on the Primo Canale broadcaster, in an attempt to find his family of origin. In 2005, at the age of 5 (compatible with Denise’s at the time of her disappearance) she was kidnapped by one rom and taken to a nomadic camp in Russia. After spending a time in the slum, begging for alms on behalf of the community, she was arrested. Without documents – which is why it is not possible to establish with certainty the day of birth – she was transferred to an orphanage. Here they would cut all her hair (making her unrecognizable) and give her the name of Rostov Olesya.

What doesn’t add up
If in Olesya’s story the age of kidnapping it would seem to coincide with Denise Pipitone, at the time of her disappearance, but there are aspects that cast shadows on the girl’s identity. If it is true that Olesya, especially in some features of the face, looks a lot like Piera Maggio, in the photos as a child the resemblance to little Denise is more dissipated. Furthermore, the young Russian explained “not to speak or have memories in Italian“. Piera Maggio had told, instead, that his little daughter, at the age of four, spoke in Italian and also in Sicilian dialect. The fact is that Olesya Rostov is the name of hope: that of embracing Denise again.
