Chennai: Rumors are spreading that Prime Minister Modi is going to contest from Ramanathapuram constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Recently, BJP state president Annamalai said, “We also want Prime Minister Modi to contest in Tamil Nadu. But, no official announcement has come in this regard,” he said. At the same time, a senior leader from the OPS side in an interview to a private television said, “Last time we expected Modi to contest in Ramanathapuram. “It may even be true that Modi will contest in Ramanathapuram in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections,” he said.
It was reported that the Prime Minister was going to attend the Devar Jayanti ceremony in Ramanathapuram last October. Since then, there have been reports that Modi has targeted Ramanathapuram in the Lok Sabha elections.
If Modi contests in Tamil Nadu, why should he choose Ramanathapuram? This has created excitement in the political circles.
Prime Minister Modi is Member of Lok Sabha from Varanasi Constituency. Varanasi (Kashi) is the holy city of Hindus. Despite the various linguistic differences in the country, Kashi and Rameswaram are bound together.
Therefore, it is said that Modi has devised a strategy to further develop the unity of Indians and strengthen the relationship between North India and South India by contesting the Ramanathapuram constituency which includes Ramaswaram along with Kashi in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Ramanathapuram, which has no industrial development, recently got a medical college. Considering this, it is said that Prime Minister Modi will contest in Ramanathapuram and write a new chapter in Tamil Nadu politics.
Speaking at the Kashi Tamil Sangam event, the Prime Minister had said that Vishwanathar would bring pride to Kashi and Rameswaram Ramanatha Swamy to Tamil Nadu.
BJP is reportedly planning to make Ram Sethu the centerpiece of its political campaign if it contests in Ramanathapuram.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Indian Union Muslim League candidate won the Ramanathapuram constituency by securing 44 percent votes. The BJP candidate got 32.2 percent votes. In this case, the BJP is determined that it should face the election anyway with an alliance with the AIADMK.
At the same time, it seems that the announcement of the alliance will be made only when the elections are near. In this case, it seems that the BJP is planning to bring the divided AIADMK and TTV Dinakaran under one umbrella and form an alliance as a united party and get the votes completely.
If Modi is confirmed to contest in Tamil Nadu, BJP’s role in uniting the AIADMK will be huge. Similarly, if Modi contests in Ramanathapuram, BJP’s bargaining power in seat sharing will increase. Also, BJP sources say that the NDA’s chances of winning in Tamil Nadu will be bright. Similarly, the BJP is planning to fill the void created in Tamil Nadu by the demise of Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa through Modi.
Modi has got a chance to rewrite Tamil Nadu election history. Therefore, the BJP says that he should definitely contest in Ramanathapuram. Meanwhile, the DMK says that this daydream of the BJP will not work.
