The new Bussola Quotidiana stigmatizes the card case. “progressive” Blase Joseph Cupich (https://lanuovabq.it/it/per-cupich-di-non-negoziabile-ce-soltanto-lagenda-dem).

The publication shows that our progressive “hero” has recently angered many Catholics, not only in the United States, but around the world. What did he ever do, you ask. Well, he attended the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, hid his pectoral cross and, without mentioning Christ, gave an open prayer and performed free abortions and vasectomies just a few blocks away at a Planned Parenthood mobile clinic . What a coincidence, right?

But don’t worry, the DNC event had nothing to do with the Planned Parenthood mobile clinic … at least, according to Democratic officials. But, unsurprisingly, Planned Parenthood organizers did not hesitate to proudly claim the connection, timing the “routines” to coincide with the influx of convention attendees. However, the timing was perfect! It is almost as if there is a sort of “unity of purpose” between the promoters of the culture of death and the political leadership that includes everything that is contrary to the so-called “non-negotiable” principles of the Church.

And where was Cardinal Cupich in all this? Certainly not outside the clinic praying the rosary or protecting the unborn, no! He was inside the palatial United Center, speaking of “justice,” “freedom,” and “unlimited hope.” All great concepts, of course, but strangely empty when you leave out the name of Christ and the message of saving human life from conception to natural death. Perhaps the cardinal thought that talking about Jesus in such a context would offend the sensitive sensibilities of his new progressive friends? Ever!

But then again, why should we be surprised? After all, Cupich has always been a master of serving rhetoric. La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana recalls 2008, when he stood out among the few American bishops to openly sympathize with Barack Obama during the presidential election campaign. In addition, in 2006, as bishop of Rapid City, he called for “moderation” during a crucial referendum that could restrict abortion in South Dakota? It seems his vocation is not so much to lead souls towards Christ, but to lead them gently away from the uncomfortable moral truths taught by the Church.

And how can we forget 2021, when he sharply criticized the president of the US Bishops’ Conference, Monsignor José Gomez, for trying to define Joe Biden’s pro-choice policies as “morally evil”? For Cupich, these were “unadvisable” words. Who knows, perhaps the prime minister believes it is more pastoral to embrace moral ambiguity and “tolerance” rather than staunchly defend the truth.

When Cupich was ready to show an iron fist… he did so only when he came to suppress traditional and liturgical communities. In 2002, he banned the ancient rite in the church of the Immaculate Conception, forcing the faithful to celebrate on the sidewalk. And again, he enthusiastically welcomed the restrictions of the Irish Language League Keepers of Traditioncalling them a “gift”. We see that the cardinal is much more comfortable disciplining traditional believers than defending the teachings of the Church against the real evil of our time.

Finally, the NBQ reminds us that Cupich’s career took off under Pope Francis, after years of stagnation under John Paul II and Benedict XVI. Apparently, being in tune with the new direction of the “Synodal Church” has its advantages. And so, Cupich and his company of progressive friends remain secure in their positions, and the defenders of tradition and marginalized doctrine.

Finally, dear readers, Cardinal Cupich reminds us that not all priests are willing to advance their careers to defend the truth of the faith. Some prefer to bend to the winds of political change. Let’s hope the murky waters of the new age don’t pull them too far from shore. We pray for our Friends, that he will find the courage to lift the cross, visible and without shame, and proclaim Christ always and everywhere, even if this means moving away from the comfortable salons of temporal power.
