Is the Central Bank handover process over? The Presidential Committee confirms and the Central Bank denies

by times news cr

The handover and receipt committee assigned by the Presidential Council announced the completion of coordination with the security agencies concerned with completing the handover and receipt process, after completing the administrative handover procedures.

The committee said in a statement that the new board of directors of the Central Bank of Libya will begin its duties tomorrow, Saturday, in accordance with the applicable handover procedures, according to its statement.

In response, the Central Bank denied, via its Facebook account, what was stated in the statement of the Handover and Receipt Committee assigned by the Presidential Council regarding the completion of the handover and receipt process.

The Central Bank affirmed its adherence to its position that the presidential procedures were issued by someone without the right to do so, are invalid and in violation of the law, according to its statement.

The Central Bank indicated that the suspension of our employees’ work will continue until the decisions issued by the Presidential Council are cancelled, while our work related to electronic systems and services will continue in accordance with the law, he said.

The Presidential Committee said last Tuesday that the new administration would begin its duties on Wednesday, after completing the administrative handover procedures, saying that the “former governor” Al-Siddiq Al-Kabeer had refused to hand over.

For his part, a statement by Al-Kabeer and his deputy said that the presidential decision is illegal and void, and was issued by an unqualified person, in response to her refusal to carry out the handover process.

The Presidential Council had issued a decision to form a new board of directors headed by Mohamed El-Shokry, basing its decision to dismiss El-Kabir on Parliament’s assignment of El-Shokry as governor of the Central Bank in 2018.

Two days before the presidential announcement, the House of Representatives issued a decision to suspend the decision to assign Al-Shukry as governor of the Central Bank, because the period of his assignment to his duties had passed without him starting his work as governor of the bank.

The presidency also decided to continue implementing the council’s decision to appoint Al-Siddiq Al-Kabeer as governor of the Central Bank and Marai Al-Barasi as his deputy.
