Lawyers have written a letter to the President and the Supreme Court Collegium protesting the appointment of Central Government Advocate Victoria Gowri as a judge of the Madras High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the names of 8 persons to the Central Government for appointment as judges of the Madras High Court. Madras High Court Advocates NGR Prasad, R. Vaigai, Naga Saila, V. Suresh, Sudha Ramalingam, Ayyadurai, Jimraj objected to the appointment of Victoria Gowri, a Central Government Advocate in the Madurai Branch of the High Court, who was included in this list, as a High Court judge. 21 people, including Milton, signed the letter and sent it to the President and the Supreme Court Collegium.
In the letter, they said that Victoria Gowri had made various hateful comments against the country’s minorities, which are still on YouTube. Victoria Gowri is the former National General Secretary of the Women’s Wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
“In the context of Gawri’s speeches, can any lawyer from the Muslim or Christian community believe that justice will be served in his court if he becomes a judge?” As the lawyers have attached in their letter.
