The school education authorities in Chennai are discussing the need for the Plus 1 public examination for the upcoming academic year. The Tamil syllabus implemented the public examination for Plus 1 students in 2017-18, but it has resulted in more students not passing the Plus 1 exam and dropping out of school halfway.
This academic year, 50,000 students applied for the Plus 2 public exam but did not appear for it. Education Minister Mahesh held a discussion with the authorities on this issue two weeks ago. If Plus 1 public examination continues, the dropout rate for Plus 2 is expected to increase.
Today, the school education department will hold a consultation with district primary education officers to debate whether to continue or stop Plus 1 public examination for the coming academic year. A meeting will be held for two days in Anna Centenary Campus in Chennai, where Principal Education Officers will share their opinions on the district-wise public examination, plans for the upcoming academic year, and tenth standard public examination arrangements. The next steps will be finalized based on their feedback.
