“The handwritten election promise changed my mind.”
This is what is said among residents of Dongtan 2 New Town, where Lee Jun-seok, leader of the New Reform Party, was elected immediately after the 22nd National Assembly election.
Dongtan residents cited public information containing election promises as the main reason why Representative Lee was elected.
On the 12th, parent A (35), who lives in Dongtan 7-dong, said in an interview with News 1, “I chose it because I fell in love with (elected candidate Lee Jun-seok’s) election publicity materials that explained each and every pledge by hand and even drew a map of Dongtan.”
Mr. A said, “I lived in Dongtan for so long that I wondered if there was a place like that in Dongtan, so the picture that President-elect Lee Jun-seok drew of Dongtan New Town was really touching.”

Perhaps this sentiment resonated, as Representative Lee won his first gold badge, beating out Democratic Party candidate Gong Young-woon, who had consistently ranked first in various public opinion polls, unlike the exit polls.
Representative Lee was elected with 51,856 votes (42.41%), beating out candidate Gong Young-woon, who received 48,578 votes (39.73%), by 2.68 percentage points.
In his speech about winning the election, Representative Lee said, “I am sincerely grateful to the residents of Dongtan who gave me the honor of being elected as a member of the National Assembly,” and added, “I will do my best to repay your support so that Dongtan can develop.”
