Madras High Court has rejected the request of S.P. Velumani, who sought a stay on the trial of the case of corruption in municipal corporation tenders and addition of assets beyond income.

Arapor movement and DMK organizing secretary RS Bharati filed a case in the Madras High Court demanding that a case be registered against former minister Velumani for alleged irregularities in tendering for various works in the Chennai and Coimbatore corporations during the AIADMK regime.

Based on that, the anti-bribery department registered a case against Velumani. Similarly, the anti-bribery department has also pursued a case of adding assets up to 58 crore rupees in excess of income.

The petitions filed by Velumani seeking an interim stay on the investigation of these two cases and the dismissal of the case were heard again today in the session of Chief Justice Munishwarnath Bhandari and Justice N. Mala to decide whether it is suitable for trial. At that time, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju appeared on behalf of Velumani.

At that time, the judges directed the Anti-Corruption and Anti-Corruption Department to respond by July 18 on whether the case is fit for trial.

The judges refused to accept SB Velumani’s request to stay the trial till then.
