Dhoni at CSK:
Dhoni, who has been playing for the CSK team since the inception of the IPL in 2008, has played for the CSK team in all the other seasons except the two seasons 2016 and 2017. The CSK team was banned for both seasons due to gambling.
Dhoni has played a significant role as a captain, batsman and wicket-keeper for the CSK team. Dhoni, who led the CSK team to the play-offs in all but one season (2020), has led the CSK team to 9 finals and won the trophy 4 times.
Dhoni is the reason why CSK is the most successful team in the IPL. Dhoni has also won the Champions League trophy twice to go to the IPL Cup.
Dhoni resigns from captaincy:
Retired from international cricket, Dhoni is only playing in the IPL and at the end of his career in the IPL. Before the mega auction of the 15th season, Dhoni told the CSK team to retain Jadeja as the first player and to retain himself as the 2nd player. Accordingly, Jadeja was retained for a higher amount than Dhoni.
Just then, it was speculated that Jadeja would be the next captain. Similarly, with the start of the 15th season of IPL on the 26th, CSK stepped down from the captaincy today and handed over the captaincy to Jadeja.

This IPL season, the matches will be played in Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad only. Since Dhoni has promised to play his last IPL match in Chennai, one can expect him to play next season.
