And you cell phone is too slow, overheats a lot, or exhibits other strange behavior, you most likely have a spy app. How can you find out?

When a smartphone (Android or iPhone) has a malicious app, it often behaves in a rather strange way. For example, it may suddenly turn on or off, it may overheat, or its performance may decrease considerably, even if you are not using it. Why does this happen? Let us explain.

According to Bitdefender, a renowned cybersecurity agency, many malicious applications behave like spyware, meaning they are designed to collect information from their victims without them noticing. To do this, they have to work in the background, which often causes the cell phone to become too slow.

This is because the malicious application is consuming system resources to record conversations through the microphone, access your friends list, track your location, take photos or videos without your consent, among other actions. How do apps get onto our smartphone? According to experts, there are two ways.

The first is known as Direct Access, meaning that an acquaintance took our device and installed these spy apps with the aim of stealing our information. The second way is Remote Access, meaning that our cell phone was infected because we downloaded a malicious app that was sent to us via WhatsApp, email, etc.

One way to recognize spy apps is that they often ask for unnecessary permissions to operate. For this reason, before installing any software on your phone, you should check (in Play Store or App Store) what access the app will have. If it asks for too many, it is best to avoid downloading it, since your personal information would be at risk.
