Isaak will represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest. But who is the musician who was already honing his career at the age of twelve?
The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 begins this Tuesday in Malmö, Sweden. It starts with the first semi-final in the evening. The German candidate Isaak will also be on stage at the show. Although the ESC’s biggest donors – Great Britain, Spain, France, Italy and Germany – are set for the final, this year they will have the opportunity to present their song to the ESC fans during the semi-finals. The special interest channel One broadcasts the spectacle.
The second semi-final on Thursday will see the last places awarded for the grand finale on May 11th. Initially 37 countries take part, eleven of which are eliminated in the semi-finals, leaving 26 remaining in the final on Saturday evening. The motto of the world’s largest singing competition is “United By Music”.
He is running for Germany
Isaak wants to convince the international audience with the song “Always On The Run”. In February, after the preliminary decision, ESC fans were initially surprised, but still happy about the 29-year-old as a German hope. The singer also impressed with his relaxed manner. And it’s true: When presenter Barbara Schöneberger asked the excited artists about their state of mind shortly before the points were announced, Isaak said bluntly: “I don’t give a shit.”
Isaak could not explain his success in the preliminary round. His guess: “Maybe it was the calm that I kept.” The man from Espelkamp in North Rhine-Westphalia gained experience as a street musician at the age of twelve, after teaching himself guitar, piano, ukulele and drums. He made his first appearance on the big stage in 2011 as part of the “X-Factor” show. He was 15 years old at the time.
However, his career path was not always easy. During the corona pandemic, the show industry was temporarily on hold. “I was always looking for ways to find an audience because during Corona there were somehow no stages where you could present yourself,” he told the “Bild” newspaper in 2023. During this time Isaak was unemployed, but never gave up on his dream. Finally, he managed to boost his career through a show: In May 2021, he won entertainer Knossi’s digital talent show “Show Your Talent”.
Can he now make a living from his music? “I’ve always been able to make a happy living from music, regardless of how much money I’ve earned. Because you always have the luxury of being able to do what you love most all day long,” he said last year Year.
While Isaak is now preparing for his big appearance at the ESC and taking the next step in his career, he can rely on the support of his wife Loreen. The two have known each other since childhood. She was also excited about the preliminary decision in the studio. The 29-year-old is not only married, but also the father of two children.
