The serie documental Woman at the End of the World —Woman at the End of the World— is an acclaimed project that follows the renowned Polish journalist and presenter Martyna Wojciechowska as it travels the world in search of exceptional women from diverse professions and cultures. From Africa to Latin America, the program has captured the stories of women whose lives and work deeply impact their communities and beyond.
In its most recent season, the fifteenth, Martyna highlights the talented Isabella Springmühlwho stars in the first episode. Isabella is a Guatemalan fashion designer with Down syndrome who has gained international recognition for her colorful and authentic designs that incorporate Mayan textiles.
In the documentary, the Guatemalan journalist introduces herself in a simple but powerful way: “My name is Isabella Springmühl Tejada, I am 27 years old, I am a fashion designer and I have Down syndrome.” During the episode, the Polish journalist visits Springmühl’s workshop, a space where her creations are born, her home, some corners of La Antigua Guatemala and also makes a special visit to one of the Mayan weavers she works with.
The show offers an intimate look at the life of the Guatemalan, who has managed to make her way in the competitive world of fashion. Her story is an inspiring testament to resilience, talent and determination. Through her brand Down to XjabelleIsabella not only designs fashion; she also empowers the indigenous women she works with, using fabrics handmade by Mayan women.

In addition to highlighting the Guatemalan’s work, the documentary also features people close to her, including her mother and her fiancé, Paco de la Fuente, a Mexican actor with Down syndrome.

Martyna Wojciechowska is a prominent Polish journalist, television presenter, writer, filmmaker and activist, known for her adventurous spirit and commitment to social issues. She was an editor of National Geographic magazine and since 2008 has hosted the show Woman at the End of the World. In addition to her media career, Wojciechowska is a passionate traveller and mountaineer. She has climbed several of the world’s highest mountains, including Mount Everest.
