Isaiah Collier, Utah Jazz (44% rostered)

by Liam O'Connor

The fantasy basketball season is entering its most crucial phase, with many head-to-head leagues now in the playoffs. Navigating the waiver wire effectively is paramount to success, and identifying players with favorable schedules and increased opportunities can be the difference between advancement and elimination. Tristan da Silva of the Orlando Magic, along with several others benefiting from injuries and shifting team dynamics, represent compelling options for managers seeking a competitive edge. This week’s focus is on players poised to contribute meaningfully during a busy stretch of games.

With 20 teams scheduled to play four games next week, maximizing potential production from players with ample opportunities is key. Injuries to key players across the league are creating openings for those on the fringes of rotations to step into more significant roles. Identifying these players, and understanding their potential impact, is the core of successful fantasy management during the playoffs. The following six players, currently rostered in less than half of Yahoo leagues, warrant serious consideration.

The Utah Jazz find themselves shorthanded, with Lauri Markkanen (hip) and Keyonte George (hamstring) sidelined. Adding to the Jazz’s injury woes are season-ending injuries to Jaren Jackson Jr. (knee) and Jusuf Nurkić (nose). This depleted roster has opened the door for rookie Isaiah Collier to shine. Since February 1, Collier has averaged 17.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 1.9 steals over 18 games, demonstrating a well-rounded fantasy profile despite a limited three-point game. His 49.5% field goal percentage further enhances his value, making him a surprisingly efficient scorer.

Precious Achiuwa, Sacramento Kings (39% rostered)

The Sacramento Kings are dealing with their own injury concerns, specifically with Keegan Murray (ankle), who has been out since February 25 and is expected to remain sidelined for the foreseeable future. This absence has created a significant opportunity for Precious Achiuwa. Over the last 14 games, Achiuwa has averaged 32 minutes, translating to 16.3 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 1.2 blocks. With the Kings facing favorable matchups against the Hawks and Nets next week, Achiuwa’s production is likely to continue.

Gui Santos, Golden State Warriors (37% rostered)

Despite a challenging season marked by injuries, the Golden State Warriors remain in contention for a spot in the Play-In Tournament. Currently the 10th seed, they have a realistic path to climb as high as eighth. Gui Santos has emerged as a key contributor during this push. Over the last 18 games, he’s averaged 32 minutes, contributing 15.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.8 three-pointers per game. The Warriors’ schedule next week includes games against the Mavericks, Nets, and Wizards – all teams that present favorable matchups for Santos’ skillset.

Jarace Walker, Indiana Pacers (31% rostered)

The Indiana Pacers are navigating the absence of Pascal Siakam (knee), who has played in just four of their last 16 games. While the Pacers may be considering their lottery odds, Siakam’s continued absence provides a clear opportunity for Jarace Walker. Over those 16 games, Walker averaged 31 minutes, producing 14.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.9 three-pointers. His shooting percentage has as well improved, hitting 43.5% of his shots during that stretch, making him a valuable addition for fantasy managers.

Tre Jones, Chicago Bulls (28% rostered)

The Chicago Bulls have continued to play their starters despite their position in the Eastern Conference standings. Josh Giddey has been particularly impressive, averaging 35 minutes over the last eight games and recording five triple-doubles. Tre Jones is also seeing increased playing time, averaging 29 minutes over the last nine games, resulting in averages of 16.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 0.9 three-pointers. His efficient shooting (56.0% from the field) and the Bulls’ speedy-paced offense make him a compelling waiver wire target.

Tristan da Silva, Orlando Magic (23% rostered)

The Orlando Magic’s ascent in the Eastern Conference has been fueled, in part, by the absence of Franz Wagner (ankle) and Anthony Black (abdomen), both of whom have missed the last six games. Tristan da Silva has been the primary beneficiary, averaging 32 minutes over those games and producing 14.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.7 three-pointers. With the Magic facing the Pacers and Kings next week, and Wagner and Black’s return timelines uncertain, da Silva presents a significant opportunity for fantasy production. The Magic also have four games scheduled in each of the following two weeks, further solidifying his value.

As the NBA season progresses and the fantasy playoffs intensify, staying ahead of injury reports and schedule changes will be crucial. The players highlighted above represent potential difference-makers for teams looking to bolster their rosters. Preserve a close watch on injury updates and team rotations as the final weeks of the regular season unfold. The next key date for monitoring player availability will be March 22nd, when teams will release updated injury reports ahead of their next set of games.
