The World Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) emphasized today, Saturday, on taking proactive preventive measures to address the sources of illiteracy, instead of adopting remedial mechanisms to address this phenomenon.

The organization claimed in a statement, on the occasion of the International Day of Literacy: “We call on everyone to intensify efforts to promote the eradication of illiteracy, improve its quality and make the most of it for mutual understanding and promote peace,” emphasizing, “the pursuit of proactive preventive measures to fill the sources of illiteracy, instead of adopting therapeutic mechanisms to address this phenomenon.
The organization explained, “Based on its belief in the importance of supporting literacy and inclusive and fair education for all, the organization focuses, within its mission and strategic vision, on education as a human right, by spreading awareness of the the need to tackle illiteracy. and targeting the marginalized and poorest groups, especially girls and women.”
The organization continued, “It also shows the need to mobilize adequate financial resources and increase the allocation of investments in this area, as well as the availability of open and free educational resources of high quality.”
She said that “supporting literacy programs in her member states is at the heart of her priorities, because the progress that has been made in this area is not enough,” and she said that “the road is still difficult and requires a lot of effort and international cooperation, i. a global context characterized by the presence of 765 million illiterate people.” Youth and adults, two-thirds of whom are girls and women, as well as widespread inequality in access to literacy programs, and the poor participation of the poor, are most in need and disadvantaged. groups.”
The organization noted, “In our fast-paced world of increasing importance of technology and multiculturalism, it is more urgent than ever that people qualify through a multilingual educational approach based on the mother tongue,” said, “This approach will help greatly improve reading skills.” and writing, and which encourages mutual understanding and respect for cultural diversity, supports efforts to build more just and peaceful societies and provides individuals with broad interests for continuous learning.”
